All-Round Maritime Engineering Technician

Then we are looking for you! Our team in IJmuiden is seeking an experienced all-rounder to join us for 40 hours per week (part-time also possible).

Boatcaptain is a full-service company with years of experience, based in IJmuiden. As a HISWA-certified company, we support sailors who are looking for top quality and complete care for their yacht. Our services range from boat maintenance and support for racing teams to complete refits. Our goal is to take all worries off our clients’ hands so they can fully enjoy their time on the water.

What will you do?

Are you a true all-rounder who enjoys working on and around the water? At Boatcaptain, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your technical knowledge broadly and continue to develop your skills.

In this role, you are responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of yachts of various types and sizes. Your tasks will range from engines, electrical systems, and hydraulic installations to other mechanical components. Additionally, you will carry out smaller maintenance tasks, such as sanding, painting, and polishing both the interiors and exteriors of yachts.

Safety and quality come first: you work according to all applicable safety procedures and contribute to a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.

Your Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on engines of various brands.
  • Maintenance and adjustment of steering and navigation systems.
  • Maintenance of the underwater hull, including propeller shafts, rudders, and antifouling.
  • Conduct inspections and diagnose faults in engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and other technical installations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to complete projects safely and efficiently.

What do we expect from you?

  • You have an MBO work/thinking level 2, 3, or 4 with a diploma in the field of mechanic, installer, or maritime studies, or you have demonstrable work experience in a similar role.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in a dynamic environment with varied tasks.
  • Technical insight and skills in mechanics, electrical systems, and/or shipbuilding.
  • You have an affinity for sailing or water sports; experience as a competitive sailor is a plus.
  • In possession of a Basic Marifonie Certificate; Marcom-B is a plus.
  • A boating license is a plus.
  • You can work independently but are also able to work effectively in a team.
  • You live in the IJmuiden area or are willing to commute.
