Are you an interior builder or (ship) carpenter who enjoys working in a structured and organized way? Do you get energy from building things? Our team in IJmuiden is seeking an entry-level or experienced interior builder/ship carpenter to join us for 40 hours per week (part-time also possible).

Boatcaptain is a full-service company with years of experience, based in IJmuiden. As a HISWA-certified company, we support sailors who are looking for top quality and complete care for their yacht. Our services range from boat maintenance and support for racing teams to complete refits. Our goal is to take all worries off our clients’ hands so they can fully enjoy their time on the water.

What will you do? 

As a ship carpenter, you are responsible for the paneling and finishing of both the interior and exterior of every sailing yacht. You work with various materials, such as wood and composites. With your eye for detail, nothing escapes you. Each vessel presents its own challenges, but your knowledge and creativity know no bounds. We currently have several refit projects where you can immediately make your mark and build a complete interior. This is your chance to showcase your craftsmanship and creativity and make these yachts seaworthy again.

Your Responsibilities

  • Custom paneling for interiors and ship fittings.
  • Repair and restoration of damaged wood and interior components.
  • Processing and finishing of wood and composite materials.
  • Lamination work, including repairs with polyester/epoxy and restoration of delaminations.

What do we expect from you?

  • You have an MBO work/thinking level 3 or 4 with a diploma in the field of interior construction/furniture making or ship carpentry, or you have demonstrable work experience in a similar role.
  • Experience with wood and/or composites.
  • Knowledge of hand laminating or vacuum infusion.
  • Attention to detail and technical insight.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in a dynamic environment with varied tasks.
  • You have an affinity for sailing or water sports; experience as a competitive sailor is a plus.
  • You can work independently but are also able to work effectively in a team.
  • You live in IJmuiden area or are willing to commute.
